Jake looked around the room and shrugged. “Looks like she’s not gonna show.”

“You don’t know that,” Cassie said quietly. “She’ll be here. I know she will.”

“You seem pretty sure of that.”

She looked up at him. “I-I’m not sure of anything, but…” the blonde swallowed thickly, “Faye will be here. She has to.”

Jake sighed and held out his hand to her. “I guess since we’re waiting, might as well pass the time with a dance.”

“I don’t know…”

“Better than just standing in the corner pathetically waiting for your non-girlfriend to show up and prove she loves you.”

“You’re an ass.”

“And you’re going to dance.”

Cassie rolled her eyes, but went along grudgingly. When Jake put his hands on her waist and looked down at her with that knowing smile, she couldn’t help but smile back. As they danced, she tried to think of anything but Faye. It didn’t work.
